The Department of Biological Sciences aims to establish a multi-level quantitative model of gene-cell-community and discover the universal laws of biological systems through mathematical logic and artificial intelligence methods, which will provide theoretical guidance for engineering and design of life systems.
The Department aims to advance biology from a qualitative and descriptive science to a quantitative science. The general required courses include advanced mathematics, mathematical physics method, organic chemistry, cellular and molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, and the subject core courses include quantitative biology, synthetic biology design, and machine learning and deep learning.
